Hogan's explanation of posture and ball position changed the game and his explanation of swing plane is simply brilliant. In my opinion, every golfer should read Five Lessons and keep a copy on their night stand. Anthony Ravielli's illustrations are iconic and the images in the book are really genius when you consider that the book was written 55 years ago. Hogan dug the secret to the golf swing out of the dirt and then passed it along to every golfer in this book. Five Lessons: The Modern Fundamentals of Golf, Ben Hogan: First published in 1957, Five Lessons is considered by many to be the most important golf teaching book ever written. Here are my 10 favourite golf swing or short game books to check out this winter. There are some classic and newly released books that I use all the time. And I constantly find myself quoting from my favourite ones. In my teaching, I'm always referring back to phrases and terminology from books. I read and re-read quality golf books all the time and encourage my players to do the same. In my golf library, I have hundreds of high-definition video clips of every pro you can name and more than 100 golf books.Īround this time of year, golfers start asking me what they can do for their game in the winter. We'd pop in the ginormous tape, then use a dry-erase marker to point out issues and swing positions on our glass-tube TV. I still remember videotaping with a Freddy Flinstone VHS camera. It's a rather depressing thought for me to think that when I started my golf school back in 1989, there was no computer analysis and there were just a few quality books around. Today, there's an entire industry dedicated to teaching the game. Learning to play golf has certainly changed in the last generation. Manage Print Subscription / Tax Receipt.
